Priyanka Chopra was born in Jamshedpur to Ashok Chopra, a physician in the Indian Army, and Madhu Chopra, also a doctor. Her family moved frequently due to her father’s postings, which gave her a pan-Indian upbringing across Jharkhand, Lucknow, and Bareilly.

She later moved to the United States to study at Edison High School, John F. Kennedy High School in Queens, New York, and Beverly Hills Professional School. At 17, she returned to India to participate in a beauty pageant, a decision that would change her life forever.

In 2000, Priyanka Chopra represented India at the Miss World pageant in London. She defeated 94 contestants to be crowned Miss World 2000. She was the fifth Indian woman to win the title after Reita Faria, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Diana Hayden, and Yukta Mookhey.

During the three-week pageant, her quote about the dignity of Indian women and her winning answer in the finals made her a national sensation. She returned home to a hero’s welcome and immediately began getting Bollywood offers.

Priyanka made her Hindi debut in 2003 with The Hero: Love Story of a Spy opposite Sunny Deol. While the film was only moderately successful, it was her bold performance in Aitraaz (2004) as a femme fatale that earned her critical acclaim and a Filmfare Award nomination in the Best Villain category.

The turning point came with:

Don (2006): As journalist Roma, she became a household name and cemented her action-heroine image.

What’s Your Raassee? (2009) & Anjaana Anjaani (2010): Showcased her versatility in romantic comedy.
Barfi! (2012): Her heartbreaking performance as Jhilmil earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and international praise.

Bajirao Mastani (2015): As Kashibai, she won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Krrish 3 (2013): One of her biggest commercial successes.
