Australia Condemns Israeli Airstrikes on Qatar as Violation of Sovereignty

Canberra, Australia – Australia has strongly denounced Israeli airstrikes targeting Hamas leaders in Doha, labeling the attack a breach of Qatar’s sovereignty, according to a statement from Foreign Minister Penny Wong on Wednesday. The strikes are seen as a setback to ongoing ceasefire efforts and risk escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Wong emphasized that the Israeli actions undermine Qatar’s critical role in mediating ceasefire negotiations and securing the release of hostages. Speaking to ABC News, she stated, “The Australian government believes this was the wrong thing to do. Qatar has been one of the parties seeking an immediate ceasefire, working with the United States on the return of hostages.”

“This violation of Qatar’s sovereignty imperils ceasefire efforts and risks further escalation,” Wong added, highlighting concerns over the broader implications for regional stability.

The Australian government’s condemnation reflects growing international concern over actions that could derail diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict.
