Bali Volcano Eruption Leads to Flight Cancellations
Bali, Indonesia – June 19, 2025
Over 30 flights to and from Bali have been cancelled or delayed following the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki on the island of Flores on June 17-18, 2025. The volcano spewed ash up to 11 km into the sky, prompting aviation authorities to impose restrictions due to the hazardous ash cloud affecting air travel.
Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali remains operational but with significant disruptions. Airlines including Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Air India, and Singapore Airlines have cancelled international routes to Australia, India, Singapore, and beyond. Domestic flights, particularly those to Flores, have also been impacted, with AirAsia suspending services to Labuan Bajo.
The Indonesian volcanology agency raised the alert level to its highest, establishing a 7-8 km exclusion zone around the volcano. No casualties have been reported, though local authorities have evacuated residents from nearby villages due to ashfall and ongoing seismic activity. Warnings of potential volcanic mudflows have been issued amid heavy rainfall.
Travelers are advised to monitor flight statuses closely, as operations may resume depending on ash dispersal forecasts. The eruption, while not directly on Bali, highlights the region’s vulnerability to volcanic activity along the Pacific “Ring of Fire.”
