Volkswagen Tayron vs. MG Majestor: The 7-Seater SUVs Set to Challenge Toyota Fortuner in 2025
As of May 14, 2025, the Indian SUV market is buzzing with excitement as Volkswagen and MG Motor prepare to launch their latest 7-seater SUVs—the Volkswagen Tayron and MG Majestor. These premium vehicles are poised to take on the reigning champion, the Toyota Fortuner, by offering advanced technology, powerful performance, and spacious interiors. With both models targeting the growing demand for full-size SUVs, let’s explore what they bring to the table and how they stack up.
Volkswagen Tayron: A Tech-Packed Contender

Volkswagen is set to introduce the Tayron as a replacement for the Tiguan Allspace, with its India launch expected by late 2025. Unveiled globally at the 2024 Beijing Motor Show, the Tayron is built on the MQB Evo platform, sharing its design DNA with the Tiguan R Line. It measures 4,770 mm in length with a 2,791 mm wheelbase, providing ample cabin space and a boot capacity of 345 liters in its 7-seater layout.
Lots of space and comfort for unique moments
As a well-thought-out all-rounder boasting a charismatic design, the new Tayron offers a comprehensive range of engines that perfectly supplement Volkswagen’s family of SUVs. Thanks to its extremely spacious interior with up to seven seats, the Tayron is the perfect companion for every situation in life, offering flexibility for the everyday as well as for those special moments. High quality and premium-class features create a feel-good atmosphere and underline the vehicle’s luxury character.

The India-spec Tayron is likely to be powered by a 2.0L turbo petrol engine, producing 204 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It promises a tech-heavy experience with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and Level 2 ADAS for enhanced safety. Priced between Rs 35-40 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tayron will be a CKD unit, positioning it against the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.
MG Majestor: A Bold Upgrade to the Gloster

MG Motor India is gearing up to launch the Majestor, a premium variant of the Gloster, in the coming weeks following its debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. Inspired by the global Maxus D90, the Majestor boasts a rugged design with a blacked-out grille, split LED headlamps, new DRL signatures, and connected LED taillamps. Measuring 5,046 mm in length with a 2,950 mm wheelbase, it’s larger than the Gloster, offering a spacious 7-seater layout.
The Majestor will retain the Gloster’s 2.0L turbo diesel engine, available in two variants: a single-turbo version (163 bhp, 375 Nm) and a twin-turbo version (218 bhp, 480 Nm), both paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. A 4X4 option will cater to off-road enthusiasts. Expected features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and Level 2 ADAS. Priced between Rs 40-45 lakh (ex-showroom), the Majestor will directly compete with the Fortuner.
How They Compare to the Toyota Fortuner
The Toyota Fortuner has long dominated the full-size SUVs segment in India, but the Tayron and Majestor are ready to challenge its reign. The Tayron stands out with its cutting-edge technology and sleek design, appealing to buyers who prioritize connectivity and modernity. Meanwhile, the Majestor’s rugged styling and powerful twin-turbo diesel engine make it a strong choice for those seeking durability and off-road capability. Both SUVs offer Level 2 ADAS, a feature the Fortuner lacks in its current iteration, giving them an edge in safety.
What to Expect in 2025
With the Majestor’s launch imminent and the Tayron arriving later in 2025, these SUVs are set to redefine the premium 7-seater segment in India. They cater to different tastes—the Tayron for tech-savvy urban drivers and the Majestor for adventure seekers. As the Indian market continues to embrace SUVs, these launches could shift the dynamics of the segment.
Which SUV are you rooting for—the tech-forward Tayron or the rugged Majestor? Stay tuned for more updates on their official launches and test drives!
